Swimming Pools and How To Keep Children Safe
Swimming pools! Doesn’t it give you a sense of excitement whenever you hear that you will be swimming in one? So can you just imagine if a kid will be told that they can go enjoy themselves in the pool?On the other hand, accidental drowning especially among children is one harsh reality that has caused grief to more than one family.always, it is too late for the adult to be remorseful of what happened. One always hears the words had I just been more watchful and kept my entire attention on him|her then this would not have happened.
Children are our responsibility and this is particularly true when they are near or within the vicinity of a swimming pool.The safety of children when in or around a swimming pool therefore rests on the shoulder of adults.
The safety precautions include:
- Mounting a pool fence.
- Child-proof locks should be put up.
- Making sure that the pool is securely covered.
- Installing pool lights.
- First aid kit, shepherds hook, life preservers, and even a telephone are lifesaving equipments that can be easily accessed.
- The portion around the pool should have a non-slip surface.
- Swimming and rough housing is not a good combination and children should be made aware of this.
- Swimming alone is forbidden.
- Have children, particularly toddlers, wear life vests when swimming.
one other factor that is often overlooked is the danger brought about by swimming pool chemicals.See that hazard sign on the label? It is there for a reason and it should not be ignored.
Precautionary methods for swimming pool chemicals include:
- Sealed very well when not in use.
- Totally unreachable to children by making sure that it is in a locked place.
- Making sure that the chemicals are kept in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.
Don’t allow people particularly children to make use of the pool while it is being treated.Purchasing swimming pool chemical products and annually replacing the chemicals that you use for the test kit is highly advisable.
Basically, you can make children take swimming lessons for them to be ready whenever they take a swim but you could also take all the precautionary measures to be on the safe side.
